IH Braves Marching Band first in class
The Braves Marching Band (BMB) brought home nine awards including First in Class A at their two season opening competitions. This year’s show is called “X’s & Overtures”, featuring challenging music and moves with execution that is catching the judges’ attention. Small but mighty, the BMB is another example of Indian Hill’s award winning music department.
Drum Major Lilly Hinckley says “The magic in this year's show is definitely the people. It's always about the people. Marching band isn't like any other sport; no one sits on the bench, and there's no varsity or JV teams. There's only one band, and everyone has a part to play, a role to fill, and a performance to give.“
Besides winning their division at both competitions, the BMB won first place trophies for Best Music, Best Visual Effect, Best General Effect, and Best Percussion at Bishop Fenwick and took first in every category at Goshen: Best Visual, Best General Effect, and Best Music. After three more competitions in Cincinnati, the season culminates at the Bands of America national competition in Indianapolis on November 11.
The Braves Marching Band consists of IH Braves in grades 8-12, with 34 marching winds and percussion, 5 color guard, and the Drum Major. BMB staff includes Donald Barker, Director; Chris Rotsching, Assistant Director; Rick Adams, Drum Line; Angela DeMoss, visual; Annie Faust and Cassidy Cosway (IHHS Class of 2014), Guard; Kyle Lamb, Pit Percussion; and David Rhodenbaugh, (IHHS Class of 2005).
The 2016 show is arranged by Brant Karrick and features “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot by Puccini, the overtures from The Magic Flute by Mozart and Barber of Seville by Rossini and selections from Candide by Bernstein. You can enjoy the show and more great music from the BMB at every home IH Braves football game.
