Indian Hill High School is transitioning to district provided Chromebooks for all high school users. This change will allow us to better manage our network resources and ensure data privacy laws compliance.
Our transition is as follows:
- 2025: Grade 9 students will have Chromebooks; Grades 10-12 BYO
- 2026: Grade 9 and 10 students will have Chromebooks; Grades 11-12 BYO
- 2027: Grade 9, 10, and 11 will have Chromebooks; Grade 12 BYO
- 2028: All Grade 9-12 students will have Chromebook.
Computers are made available for use by the students of the Indian Hill School District for the purpose of supporting and enriching their educational experience. Along with that privilege comes the responsibility to utilize technology in an appropriate manner. The use of our district's computer resources is a privilege, not a right. Each student is responsible for the detailed guidelines of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) found in the student handbook. In addition, here is the official District policy.
ALL STUDENTS: Please install Microsoft Office to your laptops, including OneNote for creating and organizing notes for classes.
Students may install Microsoft Office for free on their laptops (Windows or Mac) and up to 4 other machines at home. You simply agree to remove it if you move/leave the district.
To install, go to https://www.office.com/ and login using your Google ID in this format: studentid@ihsd.us (so Kris Kringle who graduates in 2028 would login as kringlekris28@ihsd.us). Use your Google password as the account password.
This will take you to the Copilot homepage.
- On the bottom left click Apps
- Then click All Apps
- Then click Install App
- Then click Microsoft 365
- Finally Click Install Office
A small exe file will download that you will run, which will start the process of downloading and installing the Office 365 suite.
When you start using the Office programs, it may ask for either an installation key or your office 365 (work/school) account. THERE IS NO INSTALLATION KEY. Select to use your Office 365 (work/school) account as above with whatever you made your password.
If you are new to the district for the upcoming school year, all new accounts will be created in early August, and then ad hoc as students enroll during the school year.
Students: All school laptops borrowed from the Media Center must be returned by 2:30 each day.
To access school printers, students need to login to their CHROME browser with their school issued Google account (@ihsd.us). This will give them access to the Media Center printers, Career Center printer and the Language Lab printer from home or school - even in apps outside Chrome like Microsoft Word. The printers will just appear as selections available in their printer list.
The District is not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of any equipment not owned by the district. Equipment brought onsite by an individual is the sole responsibility of that person, including care, handling and safekeeping. District technical support is available to help students get connected to our network as well as school issued accounts. Repairs, upgrades, and other types of hardware/software maintenance will not be performed by district staff.
Graduating seniors should make plans to transfer their files saved on our domain servers. Google offers several different methods of transferring or downloading these files. Please refer to more detailed instructions.
Securly is our web filtering provider that helps keep staff and students safe here at Indian Hill Schools. It enables us to have control over what websites are available here at IH and allows us to keep the internet centered on learning and engagement. Web filtering is also required by the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). Securly is required to be installed on all devices (including BYO machines) in order to access our network. In order to install Securly on a student device students will visit www.securly.com/ssl The site will autodetect the device's operating system and provide the appropriate set of instructions. The Securly certificate is only active when accessing Indian Hill's network. Technology department staff are available to assist students in installing the certificate on their devices as needed.
