Indian Hill Primary School Grades K–2
Library

Commonly known as “specials,” Unified Arts classes are taught by specialized educators who look beyond traditional academic instruction to provide our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders with a vibrant, well-rounded education. These programs are intentionally designed to spark curiosity, sharpen fine and gross motor skills, improve cognitive development, and cultivate lifelong creativity.

Our students rotate through six dynamic disciplines:

  • Visual Arts: Young artists explore drawing, painting, and sculpting. These hands-on projects build fine motor control, spatial awareness, and a confident sense of creative self-expression.
  • Music: Students discover pitch, rhythm, and melody through singing, kinesthetic movement, and playing instruments. Big performances help build “Performance Ready” life skills such as confident posture, strong eye contact, and vocal projection.
  • Physical Education (PE): Structured, high-energy activities help students progress physically and socially. The K–2 curriculum focuses on developing cardiovascular health, body awareness, and gross motor skills like catching, striking, and throwing.
  • Library & Media Center: These sessions focus on early research skills, media literacy, digital citizenship, and foundational coding. The space doubles as a student-centered hub for independent inquiry and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Play Studio: A unique, specialized learning space where students engage in open-ended free play, tinkering, and sensory exploration. The studio uses design-thinking concepts to actively target social-emotional development and the 5Cs: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Citizenship.
  • Spanish: An immersive introduction to the Spanish language and its diverse traditions, laying the groundwork for global cultural discovery and foreign language confidence.
